We compared current Irish availability, configured on-road price context, five-seat usefulness, battery/range choice, charging and the ability to inspect or test-drive locally. Manufacturer WLTP figures are comparison figures, not promised real-world range.

Trade-offs that change the ranking
The ID.4 and Enyaq share a group platform but differ in packaging, trim and dealer experience. The Elroq is easier to place than the larger Enyaq but gives up some family-load space. Model Y publishes the largest cargo figure, but its screen-led controls and direct-sales/service model suit some buyers better than others.
Test-drive checklist
- Install your actual child seats and load the folded buggy.
- Check motorway noise, rear-seat comfort and winter heating controls.
- Compare the configured cash price—not a headline monthly payment—and recheck grant eligibility after options.
- Put the route to grandparents or the regular holiday stop into the navigation and inspect the charging plan.
